How I got into this business (and why I stayed)

By Gregory Stevenson · 2 min read

Most people don't grow up saying, "I want to help people with annuities." I sure didn't.

I grew up in Miami. And from a pretty early age, I was drawn to service — doing something bigger than myself.

At 21, I joined the United States Navy. I spent years working on helicopters. That experience shaped who I am today. It taught me precision. Accountability. And what it really means to be responsible for other people's lives.

When I transitioned out of the Navy in 2021, I was 30 years old. I knew one thing for sure — I still wanted to serve people. I just needed a new way to do it.

That's what led me into the annuity and retirement space.

I started seeing how many people were approaching retirement with uncertainty, confusion, and in a lot of cases, real fear of running out of money. People who'd done everything right — saved consistently, lived within their means, worked hard for decades — and they still had this question sitting in the back of their mind:

"What if it's not enough?"

That didn't sit right with me.

The financial industry has gotten really good at helping people accumulate money. But when it comes to turning that money into reliable income that lasts 25 or 30 years? There's a gap. A big one.

That's where I found my purpose. I realized that annuities — the right ones, used properly — could solve that problem for a lot of people. Not everyone. Not in every situation. But for folks who need a portion of their retirement income to be predictable and protected, there's a tool for that.

What I believe

I'm an educator first. I focus on educating, not selling. My job is to make sure you understand your options clearly enough to make a confident decision — whether that decision involves working with me or not.

Everything I publish is built on that principle. I'd rather you learn something useful than feel pressured into anything. That's the standard I hold myself to, and it's the reason I do this work.
